What is counselling?

Counselling is a safe, confidential process where you can talk about any aspects of your life. Working with me, as the counsellor, we will discuss whatever you would like to explore, together.

Throughout the process, your well-being and goals for the future will be our top priority. You might like to read more about counselling on the PACFA website (www.pafca.org.au)

How many sessions will I need?

The number of counselling sessions will vary, depending on the challenges we are working through. Sometimes, just a single session can be adequate to work through a particular issue. Most commonly, 4-6 sessions can be helpful for individual counselling, and approx. 6 sessions for couples therapy.

I also provide longer-term psychotherapy for clients who find it beneficial to have support over a number of months and/or have complex challenges they are exploring.

There is no minimum number of sessions, and the first appointment is always a great opporuntunity for us to get an idea if we are a good therapeutic 'match'.

How do I know if I/we need counselling?

There are many reasons why individuals and couples may seek counselling.

Perhaps there is something bothering you that you can't put your finger on. People often say they just don't feel like themselves. Perhaps there might be a stressful event that has happened recently, or in the past that is causing you worry or concern. Sometimes counselling can help when you are trying to make a difficult decision. It can also be valuable when you just want someone to talk to who can be non-judgemental

For couples, counselling can provide a safe space to explore connection, communication and behaviour patterns. I will work with you to understand each person's individual experiences and goals for the relationship. One of the key aims of therapy is to provide an opportunity to each person to feel heard and understood. One of the rewarding outcomes of couples counselling can be the strengthening of a couple's friendship base. It could also lead to the creation of a sense of shared meaning and purpose for moving forward.
